Terms and conditions

The terms on which translation and revision work is quoted, carried out and paid for.

Last updated 8 September 2026

01Who you are contracting with

Services are provided by Martinien Afangbedji, an independent legal and institutional translator established in Accra, Ghana. Where your own procurement terms or a framework agreement apply, those prevail over this page to the extent of any conflict.

02Quotations and acceptance

Each project is quoted individually, based on the document, its complexity and the deadline. A quotation states a fixed fee and a delivery date and is valid for thirty days. Work begins once you accept in writing, by email or purchase order.

03What is delivered

A complete translation of the agreed source text, revised against the source and returned in the original file format unless another format is agreed. Where the source is ambiguous, defective or illegible, I will raise it rather than guess.

04Your responsibilities

You confirm that you are entitled to have the material translated, and you provide reference material, glossaries and any house style at the outset. Changes to the source text after work has begun may affect the fee and the delivery date.

05Revisions and corrections

One round of refinement is included, to be requested within fourteen days of delivery. It covers errors, terminology and register. It does not cover changes of preference on a text that was already accurate, or new content, which are quoted separately.

06Fees and payment

Invoices are payable within thirty days of receipt unless your procurement terms specify otherwise. Bank charges are borne by the payer. Any taxes or withholding required in your jurisdiction are your responsibility and are stated on the invoice where applicable.

07Confidentiality

Everything you send is confidential by default, whether or not a separate agreement is signed. Documents are held on privately hosted, access-controlled systems, are never used to train any public artificial-intelligence system, and are returned or deleted on request when the engagement closes. I sign your non-disclosure agreement on request.

08Intellectual property

Rights in the translation pass to you on payment in full. Until then they remain with me. Translation memories and terminology databases built during the work are shared with you on request; I retain a copy for consistency on your future projects unless you ask otherwise.

09Liability

I will correct any error in the translation without charge. Beyond that, liability for any claim arising from a project is limited to the fee paid for that project, and does not extend to indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. A translation is not legal advice, and the decision to rely on it in any proceeding remains yours.

10Cancellation

If a project is cancelled after work has begun, the portion completed at the point of cancellation is payable. I will send you that portion.

11Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ghana, and the courts of Ghana have jurisdiction, unless your framework agreement provides otherwise. We will each attempt to resolve any dispute in good faith before taking any other step.
